Overall Review (No spoilers):

Since this book focuses on another character, it took some adjusting to a new outlook on the situations and problems within the ACOTAR world. While reading the first ⅓ to ⅔ of the book, I just couldn’t relate to the character. I felt she was always complaining about her situation, her struggles, her trauma; while I could understand where she was coming from, I felt like she was struggling so bad it felt like there was no way out. Not for her and not for me. As the reader, I felt like I was stuck in this shitty headspace where I was never going to get out. I looked forward to reading about the familiar characters and banter I had grew to love and dreaded the moments when she was stuck in her head.

One thing I love about Sarah J. Maas is her acknowledgement sections at the end of her book. Not only do you get to learn about her relationships with her friends and family or her writing process, but she also shares what’s been going on in her life. During this book, she was battling a lot of feelings and going through a lot with her family. Not to assume anything, but I definitely can understand why we (the reader) struggle with the main character so much.

At the end of the day, I give this book a high rating because it’s GOOD. So. Good. The struggles are worth it. The sadness is worth it. The frustration is worth it. The romance. The yearning. The love.

To Sarah J Maas specifically: I’m impatiently waiting for book 6……
