We all need something to keep us going; something that will give us a purpose in life and that thing for me is thrifting. I LOVE to thrift: goodwill, charity shops, flea markets, thrift stores, boutiques, even estate sales (I’m too nervous to actually go to one but this is on my To-Do List). I started thrifting when I was in high school; I was watching YouTubers find the coolest things for good prices, so I had to check it out. Growing up in a small town left me with limited access to the variety of ways I could thrift, so I simply started with Goodwill. At the time the prices were A LOT cheaper than what they are now (thank you capitalism), so I was trying new things without breaking the bank. Little did I know this new hobby of mine would lead me to entertain MULTIPLE collections; denim jackets, “Hawaiian” shirts, mock turtle-necks, and mugs (as you’ll see in this post).
My obsession with mugs started with the first-ever cool mug I got for myself when I was younger. I don’t remember if it was Disneyland or Disney World, but I received this super cute and humongous “Mike Wazowski” inspired mug from Monsters Inc. Now don’t think that Monster’s Inc. is my favorite Disney movie because it’s not. Honestly, I don’t really care for Monster’s Inc. because it’s scary (and 100% one of my fever-dream movies from my childhood). HOWEVER, it’s my most loved and used mugs because I’ve had it for so long and it means a lot to me. Over the years I’ve collected over 50 mugs (thrifted and non-thrifted) that I’ve gifted to other people, given away, or kept for myself. Since moving out of my parents’ house, I’ve had to adjust my vast collection, because I simply didn’t have enough space. Not all of them are featured in this post, but I’ve compiled roughly 30 mugs to showcase my collection.
You may be wondering…”Why have you decided to randomly show us your collection, we don’t care.” WELL, I hope this can inspire you to start a collection of your own, or continue to add to your existing collections. Having something as simple as a mug collection gives me a much-needed serotonin boost. Drinking juice or coffee or water in a cute mug makes my life so much happier and my mood so much brighter. Simple additions like these can really brighten up your day; whether it’s writing with cute pens and pencils or drinking out of fancy glasses, it’s the little things that help us get through the day!
I’ve decided to rank my favorite mugs because while I was at the Los Feliz Flea Market this past Saturday I bought this super cute “Mugs” sign that allows me to hang up to four mugs. Now, I have a big collection, and picking 4 out of 30 mugs is going to be tough, BUT I’ve created three categories of criteria for my rankings: 1. cuteness 2. relationship to the season 3. usage
Not to toot my own horn, but I’ll say all of my mugs are cute, so that didn’t leave me with any to take away. However, I like to coordinate with the seasons, so that left me with more pastel and colorful mugs to choose from.
30 mugs now dwindled down to 11.
For the most part, I’ve used a majority of my mugs. There are times that I buy mugs that fit another season, so I like to wait to use them until then. I know, it’s a little silly but I like for things to be cohesive. So out of the 11 mugs I had left, I had a few new ones that I hadn’t used yet (which got pushed to the top of my list). There were also mugs that I hadn’t used in a while (those also got pushed to the top of the list.
Eventually, I was left with four mugs.

These four mugs fit damn-near exact on the sign and look so cute up on the wall. It makes me so happy to see them hanging up! <3 If you have a collection that you want to showcase, or you’re thinking of starting one, I highly recommend it! It’s always exciting and fun to start new hobbies and interests! Living your life for yourself is what’s important and doing what makes you happy should always be the goal. I hope my silly, not-so-little mug collection inspires you to take up some of your own passions, and start a collection of your own!
