we hope you enjoy this little corner of our world

about us

In the future, we hope to start a virtual Book Club that would allow us to connect and discuss with you openly. There are plenty of ideas that we have in store for the future, so stay tuned!

the crew!

Joey is from northern California, yet studies Film Production and History down south at CSU, Northridge. Graduating Spring 2022, this future alum will hold two bachelor’s degrees and plans to make good use of them by starting this website.

Joey’s passion for books and movies started with …the Twilight saga. Yes, it’s controversial, BUT you had to be there. Imagine, you’re ten – nothing going on in your little ten-year-old brain, you would’ve easily fallen into the Twihard hole. Attending midnight premieres at the local movie theater, reading nonstop to live through Bella, collecting merch at Hot Topic (when it was still emo) – that’s how Joey’s journey began. Since then, Joey has dove headfirst into books and movies. shortly after watching Inside Llewyn Davis (Coen Brothers, USA, 2016), joey decided to leap into the filmmaking world. If you search hard enough you can film some of Joey’s films (I‘m not going to link it for you SORRY).

Some of Joey’s favorites:
– Fantasy, Romance, & Fiction
The Handmaiden (Park Chan-wook, South Korea, 2016)
Beastars (Paru Itagaki; manga/anime)
In This Corner of the World (Sunao Katabuchi, Japan, 2016)

Sunni is a 22-year-old health educator from Oakland, California, currently living in Los Angeles after graduating from CSU Northridge in 2021.

Sunni has always felt an incredibly strong connection to music; using it as an escape when the world around them failed to stimulate their mind and spirit enough. After being scolded countless times about listening to music when they were supposed to be listening to someone or something else, they’ve decided to finally put their selective listening skills to good use with their album reviews and playlist recommendations.

Sunni’s favorite genres are R&B and hip-hop, but trust that you will find a plethora of genres in their reviews and playlists. They will be sharing their thoughts and opinions on many diverse works of art, from new indie EPs to iconic & timeless albums.

When Sunni isn’t teaching or writing music reviews, you can find them playing Solitaire, escaping reality via poetry, starting (but never completing) 500-piece-puzzles, playing with their kitten, spending time with their loved ones, and otherwise looking for small pieces of joy in this relentless world of ours.

despite oversharing on the internet since the dawn of pokemon soulsilver, at 23 years of age, riss still can’t stand writing an “about” section on themselves and copes by writing it in the third person.

born and raised in the east bay, riss earned their BA in creative writing from san francisco state university in 2021. since then, they’ve come to haunt the midwest and indulge in books, films and music as they try their darndest to discover a work-play-blog balance that satiates the need to be entertained at all times.

when they’re in a silly goofy mood, they are a self-proclaimed poet, fiction writer and all around wlw media enjoyer. catch them on an off day and they are just a guy (also, self-proclaimed). they are hugely inspired by the horrors of existing and the wonders of not, and severely enjoys talking about diverse media representation, the trials and tribulations of gender and sexuality, and this obscure band they found the other night (they’re sure you’ve never heard of them).

riss is perpetually struggling to exist in the real world, their contributions to this blog both helping and hindering.
